Firearms Instructor School
Enroll for this course
Description

DUE TO THE HOLIDAY ON APRIL 27TH (Arbor Day) THERE WILL BE NO CAFETERIA SERVICE FOR THE LAST DAY OF THE COURSE.  STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN MEALS.

This course will provide participants with the basic skills for establishing and operating a firearms program for their agency.  This course is an Instructor level course and is designed to teach you how to instruct others in the skill of shooting their handgun.  It is not merely a shooting course and is not designed to increase your shooting skills.

Topics include:  range safety, legal issues, basic marksmanship, components of rapid reaction, reaction and precision shooting, exertion courses, care and maintenance, ballistics, documentation, shot analysis, assisting problem shooters, line drills, and reduced light firing.

All classes and range exercises are conducted at the instructor level.  Students must be physically capable of quickly and safely assuming standing, kneeling, and prone positions, maintaining them and safely recovering from them without assistance.

Entry Criteria:  Participants will be required to shoot and pass the State of Nebraska Handgun Qualification Course.  The entry standard is designed to insure participants are at a competency level capable of becoming a Firearms Instructor.  Failure to pass the pre-qualification will result in the participant being dismissed from training.

Certification Requirements:  Students will be required to successfully pass a written test and a practical test.  The practical course will be the Firearms Instructor's qualification course.  This course will be a 30-round course of fire that includes rapid reaction shooting, reaction shooting, and precision shooting.  The qualification course will be shot on a standard "Q" target.

The student will also be required to complete a 12-hour apprenticeship at NLETC prior to being awarded certification.

Certification is good for 3 years and must be renewed by attending a Firearms Instructor Recertification Course.

Students are responsible for lodging ($20.00 per night double occupancy) and meals.   NLETC reserves the right to limit the number of attendees from any one agency.
