Position Title: Police Sergeant

The City of Alliance, Nebraska (8,500) is accepting applications for a full-time Police Sergeant. The individual will perform a variety of routine and complex safety work in the performance and administration of police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities. The police department is seeking a motivated applicant who will help in meeting the vision and mission of the City of Alliance and Alliance Police Department. The Police Department is a full-service, community oriented, law enforcement agency with a Police Chief, Lieutenant, 17 full-time sworn officers, including four Sergeants, and eight civilian personnel. The position includes an excellent benefits package.

Applicants must:
Be 21 years of age;
A United States citizen;
Able to read and write the English language;
Be of good moral character;
Must have state Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification or equivalent;
Must have at least 60 months of full time paid service as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction prior to application;
Successful completion of 40 hours of advanced training in law enforcement issues. The advance training requisite is beyond basic training requirements;
Possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any state;
Have no felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years as determined by a thorough background investigation;
Successfully complete the Civil Service Commission examination process and conditional offer screenings;
Must pass State Supervisor certification during the first year of employment;
Meet the requirements of the job description.

When submitting your application, you must also include the following documentation: 1) Resume and cover letter; 2) Copy of your State Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification; 3) Proof of advanced training 40 hours; and 4) State Supervisor Certification if applicable.

The IPMA Certified Sergeant Test provides a required reading list and strongly encourages you to study from these books prior to testing. You may risk being tested on information you have never studied before should you fail to prepare appropriately. The test publisher considers this reading list to be a secure document and may not be posted on the internet. Upon receipt of your qualified application, the Civil Service Secretary will provide you with the recommended reading list. The sooner you submit your application, the more time you will have to study from these books. Those candidates that successfully complete the written tests will be invited to complete the interview process with the Sergeant Review Board and Civil Service Commission.

Upon conditional offer, applicant will need to complete a psychological exam and a pre-employment drug test.
