Position Title: Police Captain

Description:
City of Hastings, www.cityofhastings.org, is accepting applications for the position of Police Captain. This inspirational leader will direct the activities of a specific division, be responsible for administrative and supervisory duties for the Police Department, and provide highly complex administrative support to the Police Chief. The Police Captain may act for the Chief during the Chief’s absence and is subject to recall for emergency command response situations. The City of Hastings police department consists of 39 sworn positions, 4 full-time civilian, and 5 part-time civilian positions.

Typical tasks include:
• Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals,
policies, and procedures
• Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate assigned division functions
requiring
• Train, motivate, and evaluate personnel
• Participate in the development and administration of the departmental
budget, monitors expenditures
• Respond to citizen inquiries and resolve difficult and sensitive complaints
• Work productively and cooperatively with other departments, agencies,
groups, and individuals

Annual salary range for this FLSA exempt position is $62,899 – $87,624 in addition to an excellent benefit package.

Requirements include: ability to prioritize and efficiently manage multiple assignments; unquestioned integrity and ethics; thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment; and thorough knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Six years of municipal police department experience, with four years at the
rank of sergeant or higher. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
or university may substitute for two of the four-year requirement as a
sergeant.
• Certification as required from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training
Center.
• Valid Driver’s License
Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process including, but not limited to, written test; video test; oral test; evaluation of training and experience; polygraph test; psychological evaluation; background investigation; controlled substance screen; physical capacity evaluation.
