**THIS POLICE OFFICER POSITION REQUIRES LAW ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATIVE EXPERIENCE. THE PERSON SELECTED WILL LIKELY BE ASSIGNED THE ROLE OF INVESTIGATOR FOR A MINIMUM OF TWO TO THREE YEARS. THE POSITION WILL THEN, DEPENDING ON DEPARTMENTAL NEED, BECOME PART OF THE POSITION ROTATION PROCESS FOR POLICE OFFICERS.**

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalency. Ability to meet, communicate and work with general public effectively and to react calmly, quickly and accurately in emergency situations essential. Must successfully pass physical, psychological and polygraph exams. Must have previously completed a Basic Training Academy as provided or approved by Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and worked a minimum of one (1) year as a certified/sworn officer and be able to be commissioned as a State Deputy Sheriff. Minimum age 21 years.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of assigned investigator experience in law enforcement at time of selection.

Investigations (Criminal and Threat Assessment): Conduct a variety of general and in-depth investigations (both criminal and threat assessment related)and surveillance activities to gather, document, and preserve evidence. Conduct interviews of victims, suspects, witnesses, and informants and prepares complete and concise documentation of investigations including citations, reports, and court documents to ensure appropriate disposition. Assist in writing warrants, affidavits, and other legal processes.

Must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies, conducting investigations, and determining the appropriate outcome to such case investigations. Also required to assist other personnel of the police department in conducting investigations, interviews, interrogations, searches, arrests, referrals, along with associated documentation.

Act as a liaison to other law enforcement agency investigative units. Assess threats to the campus community, conduct investigations and implement safety planning with victims. Coordinate with UNO departments to investigate and mitigate threats and related safety concerns. Effectively present cases for courtroom proceedings. Assist HR Coordinator in conducting pre-employment investigations on UNODPS job applicants.

Commissioned police officer performs all related duties including, but not limited to, patrolling on foot or by vehicle, University property to prevent and discover the commission of crimes; enforce State laws and city ordinances; enforce traffic regulations; conduct investigations on criminal offenses and traffic accidents to gather evidence, obtain witnesses and make arrests; provide documentation and testimony to Judicial Board and courts; and provide general security for University properties and citizens on campus to ensure a safe environment for all.

Effectively communicates with people. Patrols by foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle, parking lots, streets, and buildings to prevent crime and traffic offenses by enforcing laws and regulations. Responds to calls of assistance from the community, staff and students, and visitors. Provides assistance and guidance to other officers and necessary support to other emergency responders. Responds to medical calls, renders first aid, or arranges for emergency medical treatment. Provides security, routine security checks and opens and closes buildings for University events.
