The City of Franklin is seeking a EXPERIENCED LAW ENFORCEMENT PROFESSIONAL with law enforcement in a leadership position to be its next Chief of Police. The Chief of Police oversees and manages the activities of the police department and auxiliary functions such as animal control and code enforcement activities. The City of Franklin in seeking a leader that is community oriented and believes in the practice of community policing.

This position is responsible for coordinating department activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations; providing staff assistance to the City Administrator, Mayor and City Council; preparing and presenting reports and other necessary correspondence.

The Police Chief is responsible for overseeing the appointment and dismissal of all departmental personnel; developing subordinate personnel; handling grievances, and maintaining the conduct and general behavior of department personnel.

Requirements include: Forward-thinking leadership concerning the police department both now and in the future. Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, personnel management, budget preparation. Knowledge of principles and techniques of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Dedication to safe work practices.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal
Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, or a related field is
preferred.

Certification as required from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.

Valid Driver’s License

Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process including, but not limited to, written test; video test; evaluation of training and experience; polygraph test; psychological evaluation; background investigation; illegal drug screening; physical capacity evaluation.
