Sixteen-week Basic Course Program
The Training Center conducts a Sixteen-week basic course. The course is open to individuals who meet the required admission criteria. The basic course curriculum is based on a state-wide law enforcement job task analysis which was completed in 2012 and approved by the Police Standards Advisory Council. The training is a challenging combination of classroom and hands-on skills training. The course is designed to allow the successful graduate to assume entry-level law enforcement duties, although many agencies will conduct additional field training for new hires. Students who are not hired by a Nebraska law enforcement agency before or during the basic training course will be issued a diploma on successful completion of the program and will have two years in which to obtain employment and appointment with an agency as a law enforcement officer. Law enforcement officer certification is not complete until the student is hired and appointed by a Nebraska law enforcement agency.
